Overview
- Series production of the Cupra Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo began on Wednesday at Seat’s Martorell plant in a ceremony attended by senior Spanish and Volkswagen executives.
- Both models share the Volkswagen Group MEB+ platform and common powertrain options so they use the same battery sizes and performance levels.
- Initial vehicles are fitted with 52 kWh NMC cells imported from Salzgitter and battery packs assembled at Martorell’s new Taller 20, a 64,000 m² unit rated to produce about 1,200 packs per day.
- Production is starting on a limited shift pattern with a staged ramp-up across the year, and company guidance foresees roughly 60,000–70,000 combined units in 2026 as orders run materially above early expectations.
- The launch is part of Volkswagen’s roughly €10 billion Future Fast Forward programme and Spain’s public support for electrification; PowerCo’s Sagunt gigafactory is due to start preseries in September 2026 and series cell output in July 2027, which will move more of the battery supply chain to Spain and affect future trim and chemistry choices.
