Overview
- Set shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup, the film follows CIA partners Chris and Lee, sent from Santiago to Easter Island on a mission that strains their loyalty as Chris bonds with two rebellious students.
- John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell lead the cast with Steve Buscemi, Mariana di Girolamo, Ailín Salas, Tom Waits, and Parker Posey in supporting roles.
- Martin McDonagh wrote and directed the feature and also produced it alongside Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, and Anita Overland for Searchlight with Blueprint Pictures and Film4.
- McDonagh says the production was shot on Easter Island, with additional scenes in Monument Valley, fulfilling a long-held desire to film on the remote Rapa Nui location.
- Tom Waits appears in the film, with McDonagh noting he plays Malkovich’s brother, and industry coverage frames the November release as positioning the movie for the fall awards corridor.
