Searchers Scour League City Site Linked to Texas Killing Fields

Volunteers and county investigators are searching a Calder Road area after recent charges tied a local man to two cold-case deaths.

Overview

  • A search is under way in the Calder Road/Calder Drive area of League City by Texas EquuSearch volunteers and multiple Galveston County law enforcement agencies for a possible body connected to the Killing Fields probe.
  • Prosecutors charged James Dolphs Elmore Jr. in April with manslaughter and evidence tampering in two killings from the 1980s and investigators say he has implicated himself in helping dispose of those victims.
  • Elmore is in Galveston County jail awaiting trial and authorities have not confirmed any recovered remains from the current search, making the investigation active and developing.
  • EquuSearch founder Tim Miller, whose daughter Laura Miller was one of the victims, says Elmore had previously led him to the Calder area and told him a body might be buried there.
  • The searches and new charges follow a multi-agency cold-case review that re-interviewed witnesses and re-examined evidence from a stretch of Galveston County where several young women’s bodies were found between 1984 and 1991.
