- Port Alberni RCMP said officers were called at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday after reports that a female swimmer had been swept away by the river’s current and has not been found.
- Search operations have continued into Monday with Port Alberni RCMP joined by the Alberni Valley Rescue Squad and Arrowsmith Search and Rescue working the area.
- BC Emergency Health Services confirmed paramedics treated one other person at the scene and transported that patient to hospital in stable condition.
- Park managers have closed the trail section closest to Stamp Falls to give crews room to operate while the rest of Stamp River Provincial Park remains open to visitors.
- Stamp Falls is known for strong currents and slippery rocks, and local officials say the incident has renewed focus on water-safety messaging and the limits of volunteer-led search-and-rescue resources.
