Search Suspended for Hiker Who Vanished in Desolation Wilderness

El Dorado County says the large-scale operation has ended with the missing-person investigation remaining active pending any new leads.

El Dorado County search and rescue crews this week ended a search for Jason Coughran, 60, who was hiking into Desolation Wilderness from the Fallen Leaf Lake area. Anyone who saw him or has information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office.
The National Guard sent a Chinook helicopter to scour Desolation Wilderness while almost 200 volunteers and search and rescue personnel searched for Jason Coughran, who has been missing since May 25. The search for Coughran has been called off, but his disappearance is still an active missing person investigation.
