Overview
- A man fell from a small yacht near Harwich Harbour at about 2pm on Sunday, May 24, and has not been located.
- RNLI lifeboats, several coastguard rescue teams and two Coastguard rescue helicopters carried out an hours-long coordinated search.
- The search was suspended at 9.10pm on May 24 and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said no further searches will take place unless new information emerges.
- The Maritime and Coastguard Agency warned that sea temperatures remain around 9°C–13°C and said cold-water shock and alcohol increase the danger for anyone entering the water.
- Harwich Haven Authority halted vessel movements to help the operation, Suffolk Police continue to support partner agencies, and authorities urged people to take extra care when visiting the coast during the bank holiday.
