Search for Missing Gilberts Man Closes Elgin Forest Preserve and Campground

A county mass-text has asked residents for sightings as preserve areas were closed for search operations.

Overview

  • Gilberts police identified the missing person as 59-year-old Adam Kurtz, who was last seen leaving his Timber Trails home riding a black Trek mountain bike and wearing a black tank top, dark shorts, a white ball cap and dark tennis shoes.
  • Kane County Emergency Management sent a mass-text to area residents asking for tips, and Forest Preserve Police said they were assisting Gilberts Police with the search.
  • Officials temporarily closed Burnidge Forest Preserve and Paul Wolff Campground in Elgin to support search activity and said the areas would be reopened the following morning once operations concluded.
  • Authorities have not released additional details about Kurtz’s disappearance and are asking anyone with information to call Kane County Dispatch at (630) 232-8400.
  • The search remains active and officials are soliciting public leads to help locate Kurtz, which could include resident sightings, trail camera footage, or reports from people who were in the preserve area.
