Overview
- Sean Michael Cunningham, 37, was last heard from after taking shelter under a dock on Carter's Lake during Tuesday night's severe storms when he made a call around 11:26 p.m. and his phone later died.
- Kayakers later found Cunningham's backpack and investigators have located his truck, but search teams have not confirmed his location or rescued him.
- Local and state agencies including the Gilmer County Sheriff's Office drone team, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Gilmer County Search and Rescue, and Murray County units are using boats, helicopters, drones, sonar and K-9 teams to search roughly two square miles of the lake.
- Cunningham's green Old Town canoe has not been recovered and is believed to have sunk, and officials are asking anyone who saw him or the canoe to contact Georgia DNR at 800-366-2661, Murray County Sheriff's Office at 706-695-6222, or Gilmer County Sheriff's Office at 706-635-8911.
