Overview
- All six episodes are now available in the ARD Mediathek, with the first four set to air on Das Erste on December 29 and an accompanying NDR documentary slated for New Year’s Day.
- Set around 1900 in the Lüneburger Heide, the series centers on Johanna Lambert and a smallholding family caught in an oil rush, highlighting environmental damage, power abuses and women’s resistance.
- The cast includes Harriet Herbig-Matten, Tom Wlaschiha, Aaron Hilmer, Gwendoline Christie and Marton Csokas, with a score by Hans Zimmer in collaboration with Aleksey Igudesman.
- Filmed in summer 2025 in Reinsehlen near Schneverdingen with historically reconstructed oilfield settings, the production drew on advising from Dr. Stephan Lütgert of the Deutsches Erdölmuseum.
- ARD program director Christine Strobl has outlined the tactic of launching series on linear TV to drive audiences to the Mediathek, as trade coverage likens the show’s scope to a German Western.
