School Manager, Driver Arrested After Girl Falls Through Hole in UP School Bus

Police have invoked culpable-homicide provisions under the new code to pursue criminal accountability for alleged negligence.

Overview

  • Seven-year-old Ananya fell through a broken section of the bus floor above the rear tyre on Saturday in Kasganj and was crushed under the moving wheel, according to police.
  • The bus, hired by Mount Dev school in Aligarh, was operating without a valid fitness certificate, and officers documented a floor hole of roughly 2.5 feet by 2.5 feet.
  • An FIR citing Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against the driver and school management on Sunday; both were arrested on Monday as the investigation progressed.
  • Family members allege the driver continued for about 100–150 metres before stopping and took the child toward home instead of the nearest hospital; the body has been sent for post-mortem.
  • Villagers protested, vandalised the bus and assaulted the driver before police intervened, and the district administration directed the RTO to conduct immediate checks and issue safety advisories for school vehicles.
