SBU Says Alpha Unit Accounted for Half of Pantsir Losses in 2025

Kyiv says the effort is designed to create corridors for long-range strikes against rear-area targets.

Overview

  • Ukraine’s security service said on Feb. 14 that its Alpha special operations unit destroyed roughly half of the Russian Pantsir systems eliminated during 2025 operations.
  • The agency described a focused campaign against short-range air defenses to degrade local coverage and facilitate deep strikes by drones and missiles.
  • The SBU estimated about $4 billion in Russian air-defense assets were destroyed or disabled in 2025 and valued each Pantsir at $15–20 million.
  • Independent tracker Oryx has visually confirmed at least 38 Pantsir losses since the full-scale invasion, while Ukraine’s General Staff reports far higher aggregate air-defense losses, underscoring a gap between verified and official tallies.
  • Ukraine reported fresh Feb. 12 strikes that hit a 55Zh6U Nebo-U long-range radar near Yevpatoriia in occupied Crimea, a major GRAU arsenal in Kotluban, and a defense-industry site in Michurinsk.
