SBS Begins Paying Deposits Above Insurance Cap for Caja Del Centro

The regulator is returning sums that exceeded the S/117,200 deposit-insurance limit, with payouts scheduled progressively as the liquidation advances.

Overview

  • The Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP (SBS) has started a new repayment stage for clients of Caja Rural de Ahorro y Crédito Del Centro who held deposits above the Fondo de Seguro de Depósito (FSD) cap of S/117,200.
  • SBS published the first official beneficiary list and directed listed clients to verify their status on the SBS website before claiming funds at any CMAC Arequipa office by showing only their Documento Nacional de Identidad (DNI).
  • This repayment phase covers savings accounts, fixed‑term deposits and CTS balances, but CTS holders may only withdraw the legally available portion or keep the account at CMAC Arequipa.
  • Clients who want to transfer a CTS balance to another bank must coordinate the move with their employer, because employer authorization is required to complete the transfer.
  • SBS said returns will be progressive as liquidation proceeds and warned depositors to use only official channels to check the list and avoid fraud; thousands had already recovered FSD‑covered amounts in earlier stages.
