Overview
- The state roads authority LASuV has set a phased demolition concept for the west side of the B2 Agra Bridge, using an advancing scaffold and a covered wire saw to slice the deck into 10 to 15 pieces.
- Each roughly 21-meter bridge field will be cut, lowered in a controlled way, and hauled off, which limits noise and dust and allows engineers to examine removed concrete and prestressing strands.
- Traffic continues to run only on the eastern span to keep the B2 open, and officials do not foresee a long full closure though short, local restrictions may be needed.
- Tendering for the demolition is planned this year, the tear-down is estimated to last eight to ten months, and the start is expected not before 2027 based on current planning.
- Reconstruction of the west span is the goal by 2031, detailed designs are still pending, and the method for removing the east span will be chosen after the first new section stands.
