Saxony Heritage Railways and Augustusburg Cable Line To Pause March 9–27 for Pre-Season Maintenance

Operators cite safety-focused work to ready services for the tourism restart.

Overview

  • SDG confirms no trains from March 9 to 27 on the Fichtelbergbahn between Cranzahl and Oberwiesenthal, a line in service since 1911 that carried nearly 80,000 guests last year.
  • The Weißeritztalbahn and Lößnitzgrundbahn will also suspend operations during the same window, according to SDG.
  • Crews will cut back vegetation, repair tracks and facilities, and carry out detailed workshop inspections of rolling stock, including checks on the popular observation cars in Freital‑Hainsberg.
  • VMS says the Augustusburg cable railway is offline for component replacements, control maintenance and a TÜV inspection, with service targeted to resume at the end of March.
  • Regular operations are scheduled to restart on March 28 with evening trains on Saturdays and Sundays on the short turns Radebeul OstMoritzburg and Freital‑Hainsberg–Dippoldiswalde.
