Overview
- The South African Weather Service issued a yellow Level 4 alert for severe thunderstorms over the eastern parts of the Eastern Cape on Saturday, warning of heavy downpours, flooding, damaging winds and hail.
- Yellow Level 2 warnings were also posted for parts of the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal, with risks including heavy rain, strong winds, hail and excessive lightning.
- Extremely high fire danger is expected in the Kareeberg and Dawid Kruiper Local Municipalities in the Northern Cape as well as Ulundi and Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal.
- Gauteng and Mpumalanga are forecast to stay largely dry and warm for the next few days, with no significant rainfall expected.
- Showers and thundershowers are set to expand across central and southern regions through the weekend, and SAWS cautions that disruptive rain may affect the Eastern Cape from Sunday into Tuesday.
