SAWS Maintains Level 2 Coastal Warnings for Eastern Cape

Small boats are urged to stay ashore to avoid capsizing risk.

Overview

  • SAWS kept Yellow Level 2 alerts in effect Tuesday for damaging winds and rough seas from East London to Port Edward, with a risk of localised damage to settlements and utilities.
  • A separate Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging waves covers Tsitsikamma to Port Edward, where small boats face hazardous navigation and could take on water.
  • Further north, a Yellow Level 1 alert from Port Edward to Kosi Bay signals short-lived disruptions at smaller harbours and ports.
  • SAWS urges the public to monitor updates and advises small craft to stay in port because sea conditions may worsen quickly.
  • Away from the coast, very cold conditions are expected over the northern interior of the Eastern Cape, while other regions see morning fog, cool and cloudy weather, and isolated showers.
