Overview
- The South African Weather Service issued a yellow level 2 alert for severe thunderstorms over Nama Khoi, Khai-Ma and Hantam in the Northern Cape, warning of local flooding and damage to homes, roads, vehicles, livelihoods and livestock.
- Hot, humid conditions will make parts of the Eastern Cape coast from Plettenberg Bay to East London extremely uncomfortable, with similar heat flagged for the Richtersveld.
- Most provinces are forecast to be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated afternoon showers or thundershowers in the Free State, North West and KwaZulu-Natal.
- UVB exposure risk is elevated, with a very high index in Gauteng and the Western Cape, so SAWS advises limiting direct sun and using protection.
- Western Cape municipalities including Swartland, Bergrivier, Drakenstein and Beaufort West faced extremely high fire danger on Thursday, a setup that can let new fires start easily and spread fast.
