Overview
- An Orange Level 5 warning for 10 January targets the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, where heavy rain, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning could cause flooding.
- Yellow Level 1 thunderstorms are expected over the escarpment of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, the western North West, the extreme eastern Northern Cape, the western and central Free State, and the northern Eastern Cape.
- Extremely high fire danger is forecast for vast areas including much of the Northern Cape, parts of the Western Cape and Free State, and the southern Sarah Baartman and Nelson Mandela Bay districts in the Eastern Cape.
- On Friday, Yellow Level 2 storm warnings covered the extreme east of North West and Free State, southern Gauteng, Mpumalanga’s Highveld and escarpment, and the western to central regions of KwaZulu-Natal.
- SAWS cautions that localised flooding and infrastructure damage are possible, with hot to very hot conditions and high to very high UVB levels requiring sun-exposure precautions.
