Overview
- The Meteosat Third Generation Imager (MTG‑I1) in geostationary orbit produced an animation of the Moon’s shadow crossing Greenland, Iceland and parts of northern Spain and Portugal on Aug. 12, showing the shadow appearing much larger and moving faster from space than it does on the ground.
- A fleet of platforms including ESA’s Proba‑3, NOAA’s GOES‑19, the International Space Station and ground teams recorded complementary views, with formation flying, aircraft, balloons and observatories targeting the corona and short‑term atmospheric effects.

- A deep partial lunar eclipse is due on Aug. 27–28 and will be widely visible across the Americas, parts of Europe, Africa and western Asia, with reported umbral coverage of roughly 90–96 percent and British Isles timings placing maximum near 5:12 a.m. on Aug. 28.
