Saskatchewan Orders Didulo Compound Vacated as Leader Faces Bail Hearing

A public-health ruling over the building’s lack of a sewer connection has forced occupants out.

Overview

  • The Saskatchewan Health Authority declared parts of the former Richmound school unfit for human habitation under Section 22 of the Public Health Act and ordered anyone inside to leave.
  • The vacate order applies to the building only, not trailers on the site, and violations can draw fines up to $75,000 for a first offence plus $100 for each day the offence continues.
  • RCMP raided the site last week after a firearms report, arresting 16 people and seizing 13 imitation semi-automatic handguns, ammunition and numerous electronic devices.
  • Romana Didulo and property owner Ricky Manz are charged with failing to comply with an undertaking and intimidating a justice system participant, with bail hearings set in Swift Current on Monday.
  • Investigators say at least three additional people are expected to be charged, and the group says in an online video that members relocated and complied peacefully with the vacate order.
