SASB Doubles Insurance for Amarnath Yatra 2026 as Pratham Pooja Set for June 29

Overview

• The 50th Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board meeting, chaired by J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, approved key measures for the 2026 pilgrimage.
• Accidental insurance cover was raised to Rs 10 lakh for registered yatris, service providers, officials, seasonal workers and pujaris.
• The Pratham Pooja will be performed on June 29, 2026, on Jyeshtha Purnima, with the formal commencement date of the Yatra to be announced.
• Directives include installing toilets along the routes, adding shelter and rain sheds, bolstering medical care and disaster readiness, improving telecom and grid links, expanding weather-forecasting systems, enhancing security and surveillance, enabling digital pre-paid services, and laying crash barriers and safety railings.
• The Border Roads Organization reported achieving comfortable track width on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes, and a Baba Barfani laser-and-sound show was approved for Srinagar and Jammu.
