Sarmiento Line Suspends Moreno–Mercedes Service for Three Days

TREND will install a new control desk in Moreno to upgrade signaling and Trenes Argentinos says normal timetables will resume on Tuesday May 26.

Overview

  • Trenes Argentinos announced that the Sarmiento line will stop running between Moreno and Mercedes from Saturday May 23 through Monday May 25 and that the operator plans to restore full service on Tuesday May 26.
  • The interruption fully suspends the Moreno–Mercedes branch and limits the Once–Moreno route to run only between Once and Merlo with some trains terminating early at Castelar.
  • The operator published a special frequency plan that reduces Saturday headways to about 25 minutes and sets Sunday and Monday intervals near 19 minutes, although passenger reports warn that reduced schedules can lead to extra cancellations and longer waits.
  • Transport authorities said TREND will carry out the works to install a new 'mesa de mando' (control desk) in Moreno as part of the national railway upgrade program declared under the Emergencia Ferroviaria.
  • Thousands of regular commuters in western Greater Buenos Aires will need to use buses, combis or private cars during the outage, and suggested substitutes such as colectivo 57 do not reach Moreno station directly, raising cost, travel time and local congestion.
