Santiago de Compostela Airport Closes Until May 27 for Runway Resurfacing

Airlines are rebooking passengers to nearby A Coruña or Vigo.

Overview

  • The airport, which closed on April 23, remains shut until May 27 to allow runway resurfacing work.
  • All scheduled flights in the closure window are canceled, including about 30 UK services each week that mostly operate from Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.
  • Carriers on the UK–Santiago routes include British Airways, Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Vueling and KLM.
  • Travelers are being directed to use A Coruña Airport about 75 km away or Vigo Airport about 100 km away and to contact their airline for rebooking or refunds.
  • Santiago-Rosalía de Castro handles around 3.6 million passengers a year, so a month-long halt in late spring is disrupting many holiday trips.
