Santa Barbara County Closes Isla Vista Beaches, Bans Amplified Music for Deltopia Weekend

Officials seek to prevent repeat harms from past unsanctioned beach parties.

The countywide safety plan, which began Friday, covers April 3–5 with zero‑tolerance enforcement and a 72‑hour ban on amplified music.
Isla Vista beaches are closed from 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Monday, and deputies with the Isla Vista Foot Patrol are enforcing the closure.
New public‑nuisance rules give the Sheriff’s Office power to shut down large or unsafe parties quickly and issue misdemeanor citations or seize sound equipment.
The County EMS Agency activated a triaged medical response for the weekend, and a DUI checkpoint is scheduled in Goleta on Saturday, April 4.
Soltopia on Saturday is the only permitted event, offering free food and live music as a local, off‑beach alternative.
