San Silvestre Races Draw Surging Demand as Cartagena Adds 500 Bibs

Organizers respond to rising turnout by expanding entries, detailing security deployments, and finalizing bib pickup schedules.

  • Cartagena’s Dec. 31 race surpassed its 3,000-place limit and increased adult entries by 500, with about 300 children’s spots bringing expected participation close to 4,000 at 11:30.
  • SIGN-UPS: Cartagena keeps registration open until Dec. 22 at 23:59 or until capacity is reached, with the 6 km route running through the historic center.
  • LOGISTICS: Cartagena bib collection runs Dec. 29–30 at the Palacio de los Deportes (10:00–14:00, 16:30–20:30) and Dec. 31 from 09:00–10:00 near the start on Paseo de Alfonso XII, with DNI required.
  • SAFETY & SUPPORT: More than 130 people will staff Cartagena’s security operation, with backing from the city council, LA VERDAD, CaixaBank, the regional athletics federation, DSM, Marnys and other partners.
  • Elsewhere, Lasarte-Oria opened registration for its 5+ km Dec. 31 event at 16:00 for ages 16+ with running and Nordic walking, while Santiago unveiled a new 5 km course for 17:30 and reports about 800 registrants toward a 2,500 cap by Dec. 26.
