San Jose Releases New Details in Fatal Hit-and-Run as LAPD Seeks Leads in Two December Crashes
Police seek public tips to identify drivers in separate California hit-and-runs.

- San Jose police say a pedestrian was struck near South Bascom Avenue and Borello Drive on Jan. 25 and later died at a hospital.
- Witnesses reported a dark-colored sedan and described the driver as a bearded man around 30 to 40 wearing a blue sweatshirt with yellow lettering, possibly reading “SJSU” or “SDU.”
- Investigators said the driver briefly approached witnesses, picked up what appeared to be the car’s bumper, then fled, and they noted it was San Jose’s first fatal traffic collision of 2026.
- LAPD reports a Dec. 12 Fashion District collision in which a dark vehicle hit a pedestrian in a Maple Street crosswalk, leaving the victim with severe injuries.
