San Jose Police Arrest Davit Martinez in String of Unprovoked Attacks

Police now seek additional victims from what they call linked assaults on elderly men.

Overview

  • San Jose police, which announced the arrest Tuesday, booked 32-year-old Davit Martinez into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
  • Investigators say the first attack was February 23 at a gym on McKee Road where an elderly man was punched, dragged down, beaten until he lost consciousness, and taken to a hospital.
  • Police report a second assault on March 8 in a supermarket parking lot on the same block, where another elderly man was punched to the ground and needed stitches.
  • Officers link a March 9 case at a Monterey Road medical facility to the same suspect, saying a patient punched a man in the head and fled after the victim lost consciousness.
  • While detectives searched for him, a dispute on April 12 on Gittle Court ended with the suspect surrendering after he allegedly attacked a family member, brandished a machete, and barricaded himself, and police urged tips to Detective Soria at 408-277-4161 or 4793@sanjoseca.gov.
