Overview
- Mayor Daniel Lurie announced Monday that the city will fire fireworks from the east side of the Golden Gate Bridge between its towers with two barges and the show is set to begin about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.
- The bridge will close to drivers at 8:30 p.m. on July 4 and the east sidewalk will be shut for pyrotechnic staging from 5 a.m. on July 3 through 5 a.m. on July 5, with additional parking-lot closures at Marina Green and Crissy Field from 6 a.m. July 4 to 6 a.m. July 5.
- Officials named recommended viewing areas including Crissy Field, Marina Green, Pier 39 and the northern Embarcadero and strongly urged use of public transit with extended Muni service and Presidio shuttle access planned.
- City warnings and advice aim to reduce congestion for drivers between San Francisco and Marin County by urging alternate routes through the East Bay and warning of heavy traffic in the Presidio and surrounding neighborhoods.
- The display is only the third time fireworks have been launched from the bridge, following 1987 and 2012, and local observers cautioned that typical summer fog could limit how well the show is seen from many vantage points.
