San Francisco Sheriff Fires Deputy Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct at County Jail No. 2

The department’s criminal unit is investigating for referral to the district attorney.

Overview

  • The alleged encounter happened on Sept. 19 in a bathroom at the Seventh Street facility that houses women and many transgender people.
  • The Public Defender’s Office says the incident was a nonconsensual assault and is representing the incarcerated transgender woman.
  • The Sheriff’s Office removed the deputy from inmate contact, opened a Criminal Investigations Unit probe, notified POST, and Sheriff Paul Miyamoto later terminated his employment.
  • The deputy was in his probationary first year, joined the department in June 2024 after serving as a cadet and property keeper, and became a full deputy in January.
  • Officials have not released the deputy’s name; an Oct. 10 internal memo barred him from entering jails and listed him as no longer employed, and requests for camera footage have not been answered.
