San Francisco Seals Neighborhoods and Golden Gate Bridge for Major Fireworks Launch

City agencies have imposed road closures, residency checks, heavy policing and Coast Guard patrols to control very large crowds for the planned bridge-fired display.

Overview

  • Officials will launch fireworks from the Golden Gate Bridge in a rare operation that is expected to draw very large crowds and concentrate viewing near the bridge towers.
  • The bridge will be fully closed to traffic for the show with lanes restricted earlier on the span and nearby ramps and streets shut to protect the launch area.
  • Neighborhoods around the Marina, Crissy Field and Fisherman’s Wharf will face staged road and parking closures with law enforcement checking IDs and limiting access to local residents.
  • Muni is running special shuttles and officials are urging people not to drive into the city because curbside and lot parking at Marina Green and Crissy Field will be severely limited.
  • The U.S. Coast Guard will enforce marine exclusion zones near the barges before, during and after the display, and local residents warn the measures will cause heavy traffic and disruption in their neighborhoods.
