San Diego Airport Authority Names Atif Saeed CEO, Start Set for March 11

The veteran aviation executive will oversee the $3.8 billion Terminal 1 rebuild.

Overview

  • Airport leaders concluded a months-long national search to select Saeed, with board chair Gil Cabrera welcoming the hire.
  • Saeed will depart Philadelphia’s Department of Aviation on Feb. 27, and CFO Tracy S. Borda will serve as interim CEO as Philadelphia conducts a national search.
  • Outgoing CEO Kimberly J. Becker will remain through March 18 to support the transition after a 40-year aviation career.
  • The Terminal 1 modernization totals $3.8 billion, adds 30 gates, aims to finish in 2028, and is projected to generate more than $4.5 billion and 25,000 jobs, with its first phase already open.
  • The Authority has not released Saeed’s compensation or contract terms, and the single-runway airport handled a record 25 million travelers in 2024.
