San Antonio Zoo Gifts 200 Tickets and Basketball Hoop to Spurs-Fan Salesian Sisters

Zoo officials said the tickets will be shared with families at St. John Bosco School to help fund planned projects.

Overview

  • On Monday the San Antonio Zoo surprised the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco with 200 admission tickets and a new basketball hoop that was repurposed for the school when another donor had already provided a goal.
  • The sisters became a national symbol during the Spurs’ 2026 playoff run after visible courtside appearances, pregame blessings and a moment when Victor Wembanyama stopped to pray with one sister.
  • The surge of public attention has produced donated tickets, suite access, equipment and small gifts that the sisters are directing to St. John Bosco School and local families.
  • Tim Morrow, the zoo’s president and CEO, said the tickets are meant for the families the sisters serve and that he and his wife intended to donate a hoop before learning another donor had already supplied one.
  • The congregation stresses that the support should sustain their ministry rather than become a publicity story and they plan to use donations for a playground, a bus and other needs at the financially vulnerable West Side school.
