San Antonio Teacher Arrested on Felony Charge Over Alleged Relationship With 17-Year-Old Student

A student tip backed by campus video prompted investigators to detain the John Jay High School teacher on a felony charge.

Overview

  • Chad Allen Rodriguez, 38, was booked into the Bexar County jail Saturday on a second-degree felony for an improper educator–student relationship and is held on $50,000 bond.
  • The case surfaced after another student reported seeing Rodriguez and the 17-year-old alone in his classroom Thursday, which staff brought to police.
  • According to an arrest affidavit, the teen told investigators the contact began in October 2025, escalated to kissing and sex, and included trading explicit photos and videos.
  • Surveillance footage cited in the affidavit showed the student entering Rodriguez’s classroom and staying about 10 minutes, which investigators used to support the hallway report.
  • Northside ISD placed the physics teacher and coach on immediate leave and said it is working with police, as Texas law makes sex between an educator and any student a felony even when the student is 17.
