San Antonio ISD Moves Three Graduations Earlier to Avoid Spurs Finals Traffic

Officials said the schedule change will ease congestion by ensuring check-in finishes before the 7:30 p.m. Game 2 at the nearby Frost Bank Center.

Overview

  • The district, which announced the change Tuesday, moved Jefferson High's graduation to 8:00 a.m., Lanier High's to 11:30 a.m., and Brackenridge High's to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5.
  • Each ceremony was shifted two hours earlier from original start times of 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.
  • SAISD told graduates to arrive one hour before their scheduled ceremony for check-in and preparation.
  • Freeman Coliseum sits next to Frost Bank Center, which will host Game 2 of the Spurs–Knicks Finals at 7:30 p.m., and officials warned the overlap could strain traffic and parking.
  • The district asked families to plan for the adjustments to reduce delays for graduates, staff, and emergency access as Spurs fan events and a likely sellout crowd bring more vehicles to the area; the Spurs are in the Finals for the first time since 2014.
