Overview
- Samsung is expected to ship both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a wider Fold 8 Wide in July, with the Wide model reportedly using two 50MP rear cameras at f/1.8 and f/1.9 plus 10MP selfie sensors on each screen.
- The wider Samsung variant is tipped to run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with at least 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, feature a Dark Green signature color, and use a roughly 4,800mAh battery versus about 5,000mAh on the regular Fold 8.
- Leaks suggest the Fold 8 Wide will skip a telephoto lens and could be priced below the standard Fold 8, with some reports also pointing to a July 22 launch event in London.
- Apple is still expected to unveil a wide, book-style iPhone Ultra in September, with multiple reports indicating side-mounted Touch ID instead of Face ID and a limited two-color launch, likely silver/white and a deep indigo, alongside constrained early supply.
- Vivo, Oppo and Honor are also said to be developing wide foldables, reflecting a shift to shorter, wider phones that open to near 4:3 inner screens for more tablet-like apps and easier multitasking.
