Samsung’s Galaxy Z8 Foldables Hit Record Pre-Orders, Prompting Shipping Delays

Strong demand for the new wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 has stretched inventory, moving some ship dates into late August and beyond.

Overview

  • Samsung disclosed on Aug. 5 that the Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 recorded 1.44 million pre-orders in South Korea during the July 28–Aug. 3 pre-sale window.
  • The company said global pre-orders are roughly 30% higher than last year, with U.S. demand up about 30% and Europe showing double‑digit gains for the new models.
  • The wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the standout model, accounting for about 40–50% of orders and prompting roughly three times as many Z Flip owners to move to a Fold compared with prior generations.
  • High early demand has pushed some Samsung ship dates into late August, September or October while some retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon still offer limited earlier deliveries and time‑limited trade‑in or gift‑card incentives.
  • The surge strengthens Samsung’s lead in foldables and could speed category growth, but analysts note incentives and multiple SKUs can inflate pre-order totals and that sustained supply, margins and competition from Google and a rumored Apple foldable will determine longer‑term impact.
