Samsung Unveils Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8 and Opens Pre‑Orders

The company split the Fold line into a wider, mainstream Z Fold8 and a camera‑focused Ultra model to balance everyday usability with flagship performance.

Overview

  • At its July 22 Unpacked event, Samsung introduced three new foldables — the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8 — and began taking pre‑orders with retail sales scheduled to start in early August.
  • The Z Fold8 adopts a wider 4:3 'passport' cover display and a new Flex Titanium display/hinge structure that noticeably reduces the screen crease to improve one‑handed use.
  • Samsung positioned the Z Fold8 Ultra as the flagship with a larger battery and higher‑end cameras including a 200MP main sensor and a retained 3x telephoto, while the base Fold8 drops the telephoto to favor the wider design.
  • The Z Flip8 is slimmer and lighter than its predecessor and will ship with different processors by region — Exynos 2600 in parts of Europe and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy in the US, Canada and China.
  • Pre‑launch ecosystem activity is under way with official and third‑party cases available, retailer promotions and early reviews, and Korean reports — presented as unconfirmed — say Samsung may develop a more widely sold Galaxy Z TriFold for 2027.
