Samsung Starts Global Rollout of One UI 8.5 With Security Upgrades

The update focuses on theft and identity safeguards for recent Galaxy phones.

Overview

  • The worldwide release is now underway after an initial launch in South Korea, with regions expanding in waves.
  • First in line are the Galaxy S25 models and the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, with recent flagships and tablets next, including S24 and S23 lines, Z Fold/Flip 6, Tab S10 and Tab S11, and S25 FE.
  • Samsung says One UI 8.5 adds Theft Protection, Failed Authentication Lock, and Identity Check to better secure device settings and user identity.
  • The rollout is phased, so many devices will get the update over days or weeks, and users can check Settings > Software update to see when it arrives.
  • Some Galaxy A-series phones may also get One UI 8.5, according to Samsung Germany, though timing remains unclear under Samsung’s staggered release approach.
