Samsung Starts Global One UI 8.5 Rollout With Security Upgrades

The staggered release brings theft and identity safeguards to recent Galaxy phones.

Overview

  • Samsung is expanding One UI 8.5 beyond South Korea in staged waves across Europe, North America, India, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
  • Galaxy S25 devices in the United States are now receiving the stable build S93*SQU9CZDP, with a download of about 4.4GB for users on One UI 8.0 and a smaller package for beta testers.
  • The update adds targeted protections, including Theft Protection to deter misuse after loss, Failed Authentication Lock to block settings after repeated wrong unlock attempts, and Identity Check to secure sensitive controls.
  • Users also get a redesigned Quick Panel, a floating tab bar in Samsung apps for easier navigation, AirDrop‑compatible sharing through Quick Share, and new Galaxy AI tools such as Call Screening and Creative Studio.
  • Other eligible devices are progressing, with the Galaxy S24 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 moving from beta to stable in South Korea and some A‑series models mentioned by Samsung Germany as potential candidates.
