Samsung SDI Unveils AI Battery Safety System, Debuts Solid-State and Data-Center Cells at InterBattery 2026

First deployment is slated for October on a government ESS project following training on data from more than 1,400 sites.

Overview

  • Samsung Battery Intelligence analyzes operating conditions to detect and forecast failures, aiming to prevent ESS fires and cut operating and maintenance costs.
  • The platform uses proprietary diagnostic indicators to quantify operational quality, including variations in battery aging rates and power stability.
  • Samsung SDI will pair the software with Enhanced Direct Injection and No Thermal Propagation hardware safeguards, beginning with the Samsung Battery Box 1.5 for the October rollout.
  • A pouch-type all-solid-state prototype tailored for physical AI applications such as humanoid robots is being shown, with mass production targeted for the second half of 2027.
  • The company is also presenting AI data-center solutions including the U8A1 UPS battery with about 33 percent better space efficiency, a high-power cylindrical server-backup cell, and a 700 Wh/L prismatic battery.
