Samsung Opens One UI 8.5 Public Beta for Galaxy S25 Phones in Six Countries

Samsung begins public testing of Android 16–based One UI 8.5 on the S25 lineup ahead of a wider release next year.

Overview

  • Enrollment is available now through the Samsung Members app, after which users can install the update via Settings > Software update > Download and install.
  • In the U.S., the first build for unlocked models is firmware S93xU1UEU7ZYL8 at about 1.3GB and it includes the December 2025 security patch.
  • The beta is limited to the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra, with the S25 Edge and S25 FE excluded in this initial phase.
  • Key additions include continuous AI edits in Photo Assist with an edit history, Storage Share for cross‑device file access, Auracast‑based Audio Broadcast, a fully customizable Quick Panel, and strengthened Theft Protection with Failed Authentication Lock.
  • Samsung notes some features require a Samsung Account and connectivity, Photo Assist applies an AI watermark to generated edits, and more beta builds are expected before a stable rollout early next year.
