- Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 Wednesday at Galaxy Unpacked in London, opened pre-orders the same day and set retail availability to begin Aug. 7.
- All three phones use a new Flex Titanium hinge meant to reduce crease visibility and improve durability, and they run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy with Gemini-powered AI features tailored to each form factor.
- The Fold8 Ultra targets creators and productivity users with an 8-inch inner display, a 5,000mAh battery, 200MP main camera and creator tools such as My FanCam, Dual Recording and Cine LUT for on-device editing.
- Samsung priced the line about $100 higher than last year (Flip8 from $1,199, Fold8 from $1,899 and Fold8 Ultra from $2,099), will lean on trade-in and bundle incentives to ease buying, and the Flip8 continues to omit expandable microSD storage.
- Questions remain about long-term durability and repairability because Samsung has not published a new fold-cycle rating, and analysts link the price increases to rising DRAM and NAND costs and growing competition from other foldables.
