Samsung Launches Smaller SmartTag 3 With iPhone Support

The compact tracker is positioned to challenge Apple and Google in holiday sales.

Overview

  • Samsung announced the Galaxy SmartTag 3 on Wednesday, September 30, confirming a redesigned, smaller puck-shaped tracker and new software features.
  • The tag is about 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the SmartTag 2 and uses a replaceable CR2032 battery rated for up to 550 days of normal use or 790 days in power-saving mode.
  • SmartTag 3 adds Bluetooth 6.0 channel sounding for longer-range Compass View and ultra-wideband (UWB) for close-range precision, and it relies on Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network of roughly 900 million devices to report locations out of Bluetooth range.
  • For the first time SmartTags support iPhone via the SmartThings Find app, but key features such as Compass View, Ring Phone, and some alerts remain limited to compatible Galaxy phones.
  • Samsung set a South Korea release for October 7 and a U.S. launch for early November with pricing at $29.99 for one or $99.99 for a four-pack, and buyers should check phone compatibility and accessory needs since the tag drops the built-in keyring.
