Overview
- Samsung disclosed that buyers in South Korea placed 1.44 million pre-sales of the Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 during the seven-day period from July 28 to August 3, a new company record.
- The company says global pre-orders are up materially versus 2025 with roughly 30% higher demand in the U.S., 20% higher in Europe and 38% higher in South Korea compared with last year.
- The reimagined, wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 accounts for about 40–50% of pre-orders across retailers and carriers, and Samsung reports roughly three times as many Z Flip owners are upgrading to Folds versus prior generations.
- High uptake and aggressive incentives have pushed some shipping dates into late August through October for particular colors and configs, even as pre-order deals and retailer gift-card offers end this week.
- The surge strengthens Samsung’s lead in foldables and could accelerate mainstream adoption as Apple and Google prepare competing foldable phones, while also affecting near-term inventory, trade-in promotions and margins.
