Samsung Enables AirDrop Transfers on Galaxy S26 Through Quick Share

The update signals a broader shift toward simple, cross‑platform sharing without extra apps.

Overview

  • Galaxy S26 owners began receiving the Quick Share update in South Korea on Monday, with the U.S. due later this week and rollouts planned across Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan.
  • Quick Share now speaks Apple’s AirDrop protocol for direct, device‑to‑device transfers with iPhones, iPads, and Macs, and Samsung notes Wi‑Fi may briefly drop during discovery or sending.
  • AirDrop support is off by default on Galaxy phones, so users must enable the “Share with Apple devices” toggle, and transfers only appear when the Apple device sets AirDrop visibility to Everyone or Everyone for 10 minutes.
  • The launch is limited to the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra, with Samsung saying more Galaxy models will be added later but giving no timeline.
  • The move follows Google’s Pixel rollout in late 2025 and comes as Oppo prepares similar support, yet Apple has not endorsed these integrations and could change AirDrop behavior in future iOS updates.
