Salta Deputy Alleges Drug Use by UNSa Tartagal Faculty as University Demands Evidence

Salta's narcotest law does not cover the national university.

Overview

  • Provincial deputy Nicolás Arce of La Libertad Avanza said students told him some professors at UNSa’s Tartagal campus teach under the influence of drugs, though he acknowledged having no formal proof.
  • Arce claimed at least two alleged cases and said he knows the professors involved, while asserting students fear reprisals and indicating he will seek meetings with university authorities.
  • He floated a legislative proposal to require narcotests and suggested including the Tartagal campus of the national university in any measure.
  • Faculty dean Carlos Manjarrés reported that checks with the student center, administrative offices and formal intake channels found no complaints or records of such incidents.
  • UNSa issued a communiqué urging seriousness, evidence and due process, voicing concern about unsubstantiated suspicions and expressing institutional support for its teaching staff.
