Overview

  • Stewart reached 100 RBIs on Wednesday, becoming the first rookie to hit that mark since Pete Alonso in 2019 and the 45th rookie in MLB history to do so.
  • The milestone put Stewart atop all of Major League Baseball in RBIs and came with a season line of .261/.334/.472 through 134 games, including 28 home runs, 24 doubles and 12 stolen bases.
  • The achievement deepens Stewart’s lead in the NL Rookie of the Year race but does not settle it because St. Louis’ J.J. Wetherholt posts far stronger defensive metrics.
  • Cincinnati has preserved Stewart’s bat by giving him occasional rest, using him as a designated hitter and shifting his defensive role to limit wear during a disappointing team season.
  • If Stewart finishes as the National League RBI leader he would join Ted Williams and Walt Dropo as the only rookies to lead a league in RBIs, a rare accomplishment to watch as the season closes.
