Sainsbury’s Brings Costa Coffee Into Stores, With 30 In-Store Cafés Planned by Summer

The rollout follows last year’s closure of 61 in‑store cafés during a shift to partner-run foodservice.

Overview

  • Four Costa cafés have already opened inside Sainsbury’s this year, including at Monks Cross, Springfield in Chelmsford, Thanet Westwood Cross and Pepper Hill in Gravesend.
  • Ten additional sites are slated to open by the end of March, with Swindon Bridgemead, Newport, Nantwich and Durham expected in February and others following in March.
  • The companies say up to 30 Costa cafés are planned by the summer as the partnership expands across the UK.
  • The initial list of forthcoming locations also includes Plymouth Marsh Mills, Stanway, Kelso, Denton, Darlington and Livingston.
  • The partnership builds on more than 1,000 Costa Express machines already in Sainsbury’s stores and petrol sites as part of a broader store-format overhaul.
