Overview
- Saildrone reported that a Surveyor unmanned surface vehicle launched two Lockheed Martin JAGM missiles during the Rim of the Pacific exercise under U.S. Navy Fleet Experimentation Program sponsorship.
- The company said the Surveyor acted on targeting data from the Navy’s Adjunct Remote Engagement System while operating near the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group and engaged a surrogate high-speed surface craft.
- Saildrone also deployed a passive electronic-warfare sensor that detected and classified a mock threat radar while working with an MH-60 helicopter, the company said.
- Saildrone and Lockheed Martin said the live-fire follows six months of joint work that began after their October 2025 partnership and that the test is a planned precursor to the larger 52-meter Saildrone Spectre, which the company says could carry Mk 70 launchers and anti-submarine towed arrays.
- The firms emphasize that any decision to fire remained under human control, but independent confirmation, details on safety protocols, and Navy doctrinal or certification decisions are still needed and could change how crews and strike groups use armed USVs.
