Sail4th 250 Brings Dozens of Tall Ships, Naval Vessels and a 100‑Plane Flypast to New York Harbor
Published parade dates, dock‑tour reservations, expanded fireworks and staff planning have forced city agencies to finalize viewing zones, crowd controls, transit plans.
Overview
- Organizers have set a weeklong program from July 3 to July 9 with a Class B Parade down the East River on July 3 and a Class A Parade up the Hudson on July 4.
- About 60 international tall ships and 40-plus allied and U.S. naval vessels will be on display, joined by more than 100 aircraft led by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
- Several tall ships will berth at Brooklyn Bridge Park with free public tours scheduled for July 5–7 and reservations strongly encouraged to guarantee boarding slots.
- Macy’s fireworks have been expanded to barges on both the East and Hudson rivers for a roughly 9:25–10:00 p.m. display on July 4 and private paid viewing packages are being marketed.
- Organizers say they expect very large crowds — roughly 8 million across the week — increasing demands on transit, security and pier management and reviving the OpSail tradition first championed by John F. Kennedy.
